A. Rewrite these sentences in Indirect Speech. (Page 100)

3. Rosa said , wiping her forehead, ‘What a hot day it is! I can’t believe that today’s temperature is 48 degree Celsius ! ‘
3. Rosa exclaimed, wiping her forehead, that it was an extremely hot day and said that she couldn’t believe that that day’s temperature was 48 degrees Celsius.
4. Rajan said , ‘Hurrah ! We won the match, and I got the Man of the match award too !’
4. Rajan exclaimed with joy that they had won the match, and that he had got the Man of the Match award too.
5. Jo cried,’ Oh, come and see, Mother! The cat has spilled the milk again! ‘

Let Us Write
Rewrite these dialogues in Indirect Speech.
1) ‘I’m going to play cricket, ‘said Manu.’I can’t study all day.’
‘You have an examination tomorrow !’ exclaimed his mother.
‘I’ve almost finished studying, ‘said Manu,’ Can I please take a break for half an hour ?’
‘You can take an hour off,’ said his mother,’ but only after you have finished studying .’
‘But it will get dark soon! said Manu.
1. Manu said that he was going to play cricket and added that he couldn’t study all day. His mother exclaimed that he had an examination the next day. Manu replied that he had almost finished studying and requested his mother if could take a break for half an hour. His mother replied that he could take an hour off and added that he could do so only after he had finished studying. Manu exclaimed in desperation that it would get dark soon.
2) ‘Excuse me,’ said the man.’ Can you tell me how to get to the railway station?’
‘Take a left at this junction, and you will see the station on the right side,’replied Geeta.
‘I haven’t got my watch with me,’ the man said,’ Could you please tell me the time?’
Geeta looking at her watch and replied,’ It’s a quarter to six.’
‘Thank you,’ said the man, and hurried on his way.
2. The man politely asked Geeta if she could tell him how to get to the railway station. Geeta asked him to take a left at that junction and added that he would see the station on the right side. The man said that he had not got his watch with him and requested Geeta if she could tell him the time. Geeta looked at her watch and replied that it was a quarter to six. The man thanked Geeta and hurried on his way.
