Idiom
An Idiom is an expression that doesn’t exactly mean what the words say.
Example –
She spilled the beans (Meaning – She talked too much and told the secret).
OR
An idiom is “an expression whose meaning cannot be predicted from the usual meanings of its constituent elements.”
Phrases
A phrase is a grammatical term referring to a group of words that does not include a subject and verb.
OR
A group of words that stand together as a single unit, typically as a part of a clause or a sentence.
- It does not contain a subject and a verb.
- It cannot convey a complete thought.
Example –
He does his work without any care.
The doctor is a man with kindly nature.

Example – You might be a nig-nag if you believe someone blindly. |
Ace up one’s sleeve – एक ऐसी लाभ पहुँचाने वाली चीज जिसके बारे में दूसरों को पता नहीं हो |
Example – He is a shrewd politician and he has always had an ace up his sleeve to gain advantage over others. |
