Hyperbole – English Grammar
Hyperbole is a figure of speech that uses an exaggerated statement to create a strong emotional response. In other words it is a method of speaking or writing that makes someone or something appear larger, better, more, etc. than it is.
The term hyper- means “beyond,” indicating that the word refers to going above and beyond what is required. Someone who becomes overly excited about something and ends up hyperventilating (breathing too quickly) may be prone to the exaggerated style of speaking known as hyperbole.
To exaggerate, we use the word hyperbole. We do this occasionally to emphasise something, add humour, or draw attention to something. We frequently make statements that are obviously false when we use hyperbole. Hyperbole (Greek for “overshooting”) is a figure of speech in which the bounds of strict veracity are over-shot not for the sake of deception, but for the sake of emotion, emphasis, or humour. It’s a blatant exaggeration for effect.
Hyperbole is the practice of magnifying objects beyond their natural limits in order to make them more impressive or understandable. This is a type of obvious and well-known overstatement used for emphasis and impressiveness. When we are influenced by a strong emotion, such as love, hate, or fear, we exaggerate the source of the emotion. As a result, the figure of hyperbole is employed.
