Matter

Anything which occupies space and has mass is called matter.

For Example :Air, water, iron, wood, ice, petrol, rocks etc.

Particle Nature of Matter

Matter is made up of particle. The particles which make up matter are so small that we cannot see them even with a high power microscope. Even without seeing them, we have certain evidences which tells us that all the things is made up of tiny particles.
